Lawrence is deeply committed to his family, and thoroughly enjoys time with them in any form: at home, vacation, or watching various sporting events his family participates in. Lawrence has been actively involved in the community and has served as a coach and director for local community clubs. Lawrence also was the co-chair of a local citizens group that advocated on behalf of local citizens.

Over $2.8 million in funding for youth programming and services, including Canada Summer Jobs, Skills Link funding, along with playground and community centre infrastructure improvements.

Over $6.3 million in funding for local organizations that provide valuable programming and opportunities for seniors, people facing mental health concerns or persons with disabilities in areas of housing, employment, accessibility, and recreation spaces including Transcona Council for Seniors, Good Neighbours, and the Elmwood-East Kildonan Active Living Centre.

Over $58 million in funding to support various community infrastructure projects, including the Plessis Underpass, Disraeli Bridge, and Transcona Centennial Square.

The riding was created in 1987 from Winnipeg North Centre and Winnipeg—Birds Hill ridings.

It was previously named Winnipeg—Transcona from 1987 to 2003.

It contains the neighbourhoods of Transcona, South Transcona, Peguis, Regent, Mission Gardens, Melrose, Kildonan Meadows, North Transcona, Kildare Redonda, Kern Park, Canterbury Park, Kildonan Drive, Rossmere, Valley Gardens, Munroe, West Elmwood, Chalmers, Braeside, Talbot Grey, East Elmwood, Mission and Tyne-Tees within the city of Winnipeg. It covers 46 square km.
